UFC Fight Called Off Due to Potential USADA Violation

MMA

USADA strikes again, with potential violation that will eliminate a fight just before UFC on Fox.

This time, Adam Hunter is the latest fighter to get flagged for a potential failed drug --------------------------------------------------test and he will not compete on the August 27 UFC on FOX card. The announcement came after Hunter had successfully weighed in on August 26 for his octagon debut, hitting the scales at 185.5 pounds for his matchup against Ryan Janes.

The middleweight bout was set to stream on the early UFC Fight Pass prelims prior to the FOX-televised main card at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. The fight was supposed to be the UFC debut for both fighters.

Hunter could be suspended for up to two years depending on the circumstances of the test, and whether or not he chooses to appeal whatever punishment USADA gives him.

UFC officials confirmed the news by releasing a statement regarding Hunter on UFC.com. The statement reads as follows:

The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Adam Hunter of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection on August 11, 2016.

USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed.

However, because Hunter was scheduled to compete against Ryan Janes this coming Saturday, August 27 in Vancouver, British Columbia, there is insufficient time for a full review before the scheduled bout and therefore the fight has been removed from the fight card.

Consistent with all previous potential anti-doping violations, additional information or UFC statements will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.
