Erislandy Lara, one of the men standing on top of the light middleweight division, has his next fight set against former titleholder Yuri Foreman.
Lara will defend his WBA and IBO titles against Foreman, a former WBA champion in his own right, on January 13 on a Premier Boxing Champions card on Spike TV. The fight will be held at the Hialeah Park Racing & Casino in Miami, Florida.
In the official announcement, Lara said he wants to give his fellow Cuban fans a show against Foreman.
"I'm very excited to be making my return to the ring in front of my Cuban fans in Miami on Spike," Lara said. "Yuri Foreman is a former world champion who is dedicated to this sport and will be looking to win another world title. I expect nothing but the best from him. On fight night, I'm making another statement and going for the knockout."
The last time Foreman had the boxing world watching him, he was defeated by Miguel Cotto at Yankee Stadium in New York in 2010. Foreman slipped early in the fight and could not recover as he wobbled to a 9th-round TKO loss. It was the last time he held the light middleweight and had fought 7 times since then, winning six of them. He has fought only twice since 2013.
Lara has won his past four bouts. He won the WBA interim title against Alfredo Angulo in 2013 and was promoted to "regular" champion after his next win against Austin Trout. He then proceeded to win the IBO title in 2015 against Delvin Rodriguez.
