Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Antonio Orozco Set For August 10 On DAZN

Vergil Ortiz Jr. is returning home for a main event fight against former world title challenger Antonio Orozco.

Golden Boy Promotions announced that Ortiz and Orozco will face off in a 10-round welterweight bout at The Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas on August 10. The fight will be streamed on DAZN in the United States.

Ortiz is a rising contender who has won all 13 of his pro bouts by knockout and is coming off the biggest win of his career when he knocked out Mauricio Herrera in May. That fight was a part of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs undercard on DAZN. Ortiz is currently ranked No. 5 by the WBO and No. 6 by the WBA at junior welterweight.

Orozco started his career winning his first 27 fights, eventually landing a shot at WBC junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez in September 2018. Ramirez dropped Orozco twice en route to a unanimous decision win to retain the title. Since then, Orozco has fought once, a 10-round decision win against Jose Luis Rodriguez back in March. Orozco is ranked No. 10 by the WBC at junior welterweight.

Also announced for the undercard are a number of prospects in action. USNBC lightweight titleholder Hector Tanajara will defend his title in a 10-round bout against an opponent to be named at a later date. Joshua Franco, the current NABF and WBA International bantamweight champion Joshua Franco will also make a title defense on the card against an unnamed opponent.

Undefeated prospects Alex Rincon, Travell Mazion and George Rincon, as well as Tristan Kalkreuth, making his pro debut, are all competing on the undercard.
