Video: Mortal Kombat Comes To Life (And Death) In New Movie Trailer

Mortal Kombat is making its way back into the world of live-action entertainment.

Warner Bros. released a trailer for the gory movie on Thursday based on the popular video games series of the same name.

The film follows Cole Young (Lewis Tan), a washed-up mixed martial artist unaware of his hidden lineage. Young is an original character created for the movie; however, plenty of established characters from the Mortal Kombat video game make appearances. Sub Zero, Scorpion, Sonya Blade, Kano, Raiden, Jax, Liu Kang, Shang Sung, Kung Lao, Mileena, Nitara and Kabal will all be featured in the upcoming action flick.

The timing of the trailer release fits in nicely with Curtis Blaydes' fight at UFC Vegas 19 on Saturday, February 20. The heavyweight contender often makes his walk to the Octagon to the tune of the Mortal Kombat theme song. Additionally, Fightful released volume one of its UFC Fighters React to Mortal Kombat Fatalities earlier this week.

Mortal Kombat premieres in theatres and HBO Max on April 16.

UFC Vegas 19 takes place from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, February 20. The ESPN+ card is headlined by heavyweight contenders Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis. Keep up with Fightful for all your fight night coverage.
