Volkan Oezdemir has become a top contender for the UFC Light Heavyweight Title, which puts him in the path of the champion in Jon Jones.
Recently, a retired Anthony Johnson said that Jones would defeat Oezdemir in a fight and Oezdemir says that Rumble was wrong in his pick.
"I totally understand what he (Johnson) said about Jones in perspective to having his belt back; he is the king of the UFC — No. 1 pound-for-pound — so obviously he is suppose to destroy everybody in the world,” Oezdemir told Bloody Elbow. “I agree that Jones is on another level in the sense of his media impact. However, when speaking about fighting, I totally disagree. I will knock Jones out for the first time of his UFC career. I have a profound confidence in my fighting abilities, I don't need someone to validate me because I know I will dominate this division.”
Oezdemir has already earned victories over Ovince St. Preux, Misha Cirkunov and Jimi Manuwa thus far throughout his UFC career.
Johnson challenged for the UFC Light Heavyweight Title twice before, losing both opportunities to another former champion in Daniel Cormier.
A bout between Jones and Oezdemir has yet to be made, but Jones has also expressed interest in fighting former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar.
