Volkan Oezdemir Undergoes Knee Surgery

MMA

Volkan Oezdemir was last seen in the main event of UFC Fight Night Moncton, suffering a third round submission loss to Anthony Smith.

Things took a turn for the worse recently for the fighter, who just underwent knee surgery to repair some preexisting knee issues. Oezdemir stated in an interview with MMA Junkie that the knee issues have been building for some time and after UFC Fight Night Moncton, it was the perfect time to address those injuries.

About to get my knee surgery. Feeling great and blessed! I’ll be back at -- in No Time --

This surgery caps off a pretty unspectacular 2018 for Oezdemir, who suffered a second round TKO loss to two division UFC champion Daniel Cormier in the co-main event of UFC 220, while also suffering the aforementioned submission loss to Anthony Smith this past October.

There is no word yet as to how long Oezdemir is expected to be out of action for, but more should be known as the fighter heals up from the surgery. Oezdemir isn't expected to compete again until next year, but no plans for his next fight have been revealed at this time.
