WBA Orders Purse Bid For Tyron Zeuge vs. Issac Ekpo 2

The WBA decided to put a resolution to the potential rematch between super middleweight champion Tyron Zeuge and Issac Ekpo.

The governing body has ordered a purse bid between Zeuge and Ekpo that will takes place on August 28. The full statement can be seen below.

The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee summoned the Purse Bid for the Super Middleweight title fight between German Tyron Zeuge and Nigerian Isaac Ekpo, on August 28th.

They already fought on March 23 and the teuton was given the victory by technical decision in the fifth round. However, it was an intense fight with the 49-46, 48-47 and 49-47 score cards.

The Championships Committee, upon request of team Ekpo, analyzed the fight and ordered a rematch giving them 30 days to negotiate, however, Zeuge was granted a special permit to fight Paul Smith with the condition that the winner of that bout should negotiate with the Nigerian Gladiator Zeuge. All of this supported by WBA rules.

However, the failure of the parties to reach an agreement forced the Championships Committee summon a purse bid, in the WBA offices in Panamá city, and wil be presided by Aurelio Fiengo.

Zeuge won the WBA title on his second try against Giovanni De Carolis in 2016. In their first encounter, Zeuge and De Carolis fought to a draw. The second time around, Zeuge knocked out De Carolis in the 12th and final round to capture his first world title.

Since the fight between Zeuge and Ekpo, Zeuge defended his title against Paul Smith via unanimous decision. Zeuge currently holds the "regular" title while George Groves is the WBA "super" champion.
