WBC President: Danny Garcia vs. Shawn Porter For Interim Title If Porter Wins Next Fight

Shawn Porter will be a part of one of the biggest boxing cards of the year and if all goes well, he'll have a title match soon after this fight.

WBC president Mauricio Suleiman said if Porter wins his upcoming fight against Thomas Dulorme on the Mayweather vs. McGregor FOX prelims, then he'll fight former welterweight champion Danny Garcia in a WBC interim title fight.

"Yes there is the issue that Porter is going to have a fight in a few days with Dulorme, but if he wins we’re going to order the fight for the interim title with Danny Garcia," Suleiman said.

The interim title will be made as a result of Keith Thurman's elbow surgery, which will keep him on the shelf for several months. Thurman injured his elbow during his unification fight against Garcia, which Thurman won via split decision. Thurman currently holds the WBA and WBC welterweight titles.

Porter won the right to be the WBC's mandatory challenger to Thurman's title after beating Andre Berto back in April. With Thurman out for several months, there was discussion of making Garcia vs. Porter a reality and Porter even called out Garcia in a bizarre, yet hilarious, WWE-style promo on social media. Porter lost to Thurman last year.

The Porter vs. Dulorme fight is expected to headline the FOX prelims which will occur right before the pay-per-view begins. The full undercard has not been formally announced.
