The UFC Welterweight Title will be defended at UFC 205 as champion Tyron Woodley will be defending against Stephen Thompson.
Woodley actually made the announcement during the UFC Fight Night 94 weigh-ins; he was taking part of the proceedings as a commentator for Fox Sports 1.
“You will see the welterweight champion of the world, don’t get it confused, I’ll be taking on Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson in New York City, November 12th, UFC 205, Madison Square Garden” said Woodley.
Woodley will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Robbie Lawler by first round knockout at UFC 201.
Thompson will be entering the fight on a seven fight winning streak, with notable wins coming over Robert Whittaker, Patrick Cote, Jake Ellenberger, Rory MacDonald and former UFC Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks.
It is unknown as of this time if this fight will be headlining the card, but if this is the main event fight, Thompson would be headlining his fourth straight UFC card (UFC Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale, UFC Fight Night 82 & UFC Fight Night 89 being the others) and Woodley would be headlining his second straight UFC card (UFC 201 is the other).
Thompson will also be competing for his first championship in professional MMA, Woodley is currently holding the first championship he has won since turning pro.
UFC 205 takes place on Saturday, November 12th from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with no headliners announced as of yet.
