It will be two months before MMA fans will be able to check out another live event from the World Series Of Fighting. WSOF President Rey Sefo revealed that the WSOF 34 and the WSOF 35 have been canceled so the promotion's debut in New York can be loaded up.
Sefo, who appeared on The MMA Hour, talked about the decision to eliminate two events in order for a 'super card' in New York at the end of the year.
"After a few weeks of discussions, we decided our main event, which is Jon Fitch and (Jake) Shields for that card, to our New Year’s Eve card in Madison Square Garden Theater," Sefo said. "And having Blagoi (Ivanov), who is out heavyweight champion, was scheduled to headline our December show, get hurt last week, it kind of fell in place and we just decided to merge the two cards together and put on a bigger card for New York City. I think fans in New York City are gonna have nothing but enjoyment of two big cards coming to New York City back-to-back," he said.
There are already a total of three fights announced for the card -- all title fights. Lightweight champion Justin Gaethje defends against Joao Zeferino in the main event, while Jon Fitch defends the welterweight title against Jake Shields in the co-main event and bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes will defend against an opponent to be announced.
Blagoy Ivanov, the current WSOF Heavyweight Champion, was expect to face Shawn Jordan at the WSOF 35 in November. No word yet on or if that fight will be moved to the December card.
World Series Of Fighting 34 will be taking place on Saturday, December 31st from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Justin Gaethje and Joao Zeferino headlining.
