The 17-0 Gaethje left the World Series of Fighting after an outstanding run as Lightweight Champion that saw him defend his title five times on his way to ten victories in the company. Gaethje was able to pick up wins over Melvin Guillard, Gesias Cavalcante, and Brian Foster among others.

Johnson has lost three of his last four., but holds major victories over Tony Ferguson, Melvin Guillard, Edson Barboza, Joe Lauzon, and Dustin Poirier. The two traded verbal jabs at the UFC's Summer Kickoff Press Conference, with Johnson saying he intends on taking Gaethje's life in the cage. Gaethje responded in horrifying fashion, saying that he's ready to die.

The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale takes place July 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
