World Series Of Fighting 34 will be the final MMA card from a major MMA promotion in 2017, the preliminary card of that event will see Caio Alencar face UFC veteran Jared Rosholt. Alencar was contemplating a retirement from the sport prior to the WSOF 34, but then a meeting with UFC veteran Chael Sonnen changed everything.

"I was truly happy when I got this offer, because I was actually going to end my career,” Alencar said to MMA Fighting. "I’m 38 years old. I talked to Fabiano ‘Pega-Leve’ and Ronny if I could come train with them, see if there were any opportunities. And then Chael contacted (WSOF president) Ray Sefo. He saw my record, watched my last fight, and made me an offer."

Alencar is already an accomplished Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist, but training with Sonnen has helped him improve other parts of his MMA game.

"There are a lot of big guys here,” Alencar said. "I help Sonnen with his jiu-jitsu and he helps me with wrestling. He also put his boxing coach to help me train, too."

World Series Of Fighting 34 takes place on Saturday, December 31 from The Theater At Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Justin Gaethje and Luiz Firmino headlining.
