OSP, Saki, Formiga Pick Up Big UFC Japan Wins, Gomi Knocked Out

MMA

UFC Fight Night Japan's main event wasn't what fans or UFC had bargained for originally but....it happened.

Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler Officially Announced For UFC 303, Will Take Place At Welterweight

Former UFC Middleweight Title Challenger Yushin Okami stepped up to face Ovince Saint Preux for Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, and was given a main event bout in his return. Okami was promptly welcomed by a Von Flue choke and put to sleep. This was the first time Okami has been submitted in MMA action, and Saint Preux's third Von Flue choke, which make up 60 percent in UFC history.

Elsewhere on the show, #5 ranked UFC Flyweight Jussier Formiga earned a quick win over Ulka Sasaki via rear naked choke. Formiga has struggled to stay consistent throughout much of his run in the UFC, and has now won two of his last three fights. In his career, he's only lost to fighters who have been given UFC Flyweight title shots.

Takanori Gomi's career also saw a sad, tragic continuation against "Maestro" Dong Hyun Kim. The legendary Japanese fighter was knocked out in 90 seconds for his fifth straight first round loss in the UFC. At age 39, Gomi's booking was heavily criticized by many media members.

Gokhan Saki also gained a big knockout victory, although it wasn't without drama. The former kickboxing star handed Henrique da Silva his fourth straight UFC loss - in under a year. Saki looked to be exhausted after emptying his gas tank and was getting peppered with strikes before slugging da Silva with a huge punch to end the fight.
