Backstage notes during Raw

I’ll keep a running list of notes from backstage at Raw tonight.

– It was Dean Ambrose’s call to not go to the ramp at the end of Roman Reigns’ segment. He was very emotional backstage. 

– No surprise, but the locker room exploded in cheers and didn’t stop for several minutes following the announcement.

– As mentioned, WWE had a wrestling ring cake made for Ric Flair’s birthday, with “woooooo” across the top of it.

– The birthday segment is set to close the show tonight.

  –  Vince McMahon was the first one to learn of Roman Reigns being cancer free, and was told of the news early last week. The decision to come back in such quick fashion was completely Roman Reigns’ call. Only Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Kevin Dunn, Michelle Wilson and Triple H were aware of all the details until this morning. 

– For the person who asked, no the cake for Flair is NOT big enough for Becky Lynch to jump out of 🙂

– Heat on Lio Rush is not as bad as it was weeks ago. Producers are high on his mic skills, but the issue is getting a filter on him backstage.

– Ric Flair couldn’t be found for his “arrival” shot during a large portion of the show, and didn’t end up filming it until a little later than they wanted. 

– Vince McMahon is “very happy and loud as hell” at Gorilla position. I was told the decision to have Rollins and Reigns come out to help Ambrose came not long after the speech. 

– There were time cuts to things all night long, which isn’t much of a surprise
