Fightful Select caught up with “The Indy God” Matt Cardona at the premiere of WWE and Peacock Documentary American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes in Atlanta, Georgia.Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp talked to the former WWE Intercontinental Champion about his friend Cody.Matt said jokingly, “If you look at the history books, as Stardust, he loses.” Cardona would then refer to his former WWE character Zack Ryder. Cardona said Ryder beat Stardust, and Cody took his ball and went home.Matt said in all seriousness that Cody took a chance on himself, and many people thought Cody was crazy. Cardona said it was because nobody had done it before. After all, there was nowhere else to go. Matt noted that Cody redefined what it was like to go out there and be a wrestler bigger than the Indies. Matt mentioned how Cody built his entity and himself. Cardona would tell us what he did with AEW speaks for itself.Cardona said Cody called him and said, "Vince McMahon came to my house and offered me this; I told Cody he had to return. Cardona also said he never said, “finish the story.” Cardona told Rhodes, "you have to go; that’s your dream.”Cardona said people dream of being a WWE Champion; Matt would follow up, saying if you want to be a champion, you have to go for it. Matt would tell us what Cody did was great, creating All In and AEW, but said he felt like Cody needed to be more generous. Cardona said Cody’s dream was to be the WWE Champion, and now he has that chance.Matt would finish the interview by saying Cody went from “undesirable to undeniable,” you have to give him credit for that.
