After the universal praise heaped upon the inaugural WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament, if was believed that a weekly show, similar to NXT or 205 Live was being planned. However, nothing came of it. No matter how many reports came out that the project was dead, comments from WWE officials were always non-committal.
Now we hear reports that there are still plans for the show to begin production before the end of the calendar year.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan is for the United Kingdom show to still follow through and be made by the end of 2017. There are still a few things to work out, according to the report, especially with the financial aspect. Apparently, the WWE United Kingdom Championship tournament from this past January was a big money loser for the company. Original plans had the company taping the WWE Network show sometime in June but the tapings still haven't been announced.
Several of the wrestlers who participated in the United Kingdom tournament, including current UK champion Pete Dunne and former champion Tyler Bate, have competed sporadically on NXT television.
Since the tournament in January, the UK brand has only held one show in the United Kingdom, the WWE UK Championship Special. Bate, Dunne, Trent Seven and Wolfgang competed in a tag match on the post-NXT TakeOver episode of NXT at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
In the meantime, several members of the WWE UK roster have competed on the independent scene and for promotions such as Revolution PRO and Progress Wrestling, where Dunne is also the Progress World Championship titleholder.
