Robbie Lawler Defeats Donald Cerrone In UFC 214 War

"Ruthless" Robbie Lawler bounced back after losing the UFC Welterweight Title last year, and did so in a close fight with Donald Cerrone at UFC 214.

Lawler started off aggressive against Cerrone in a fight that was rescheduled several times before finally going down. After an early storm, Cerrone mounted a comeback in a dominant round two, before a more even round three.

Round Three: The round begins with Lawler nailing Cerrone with a head kick, the fighters also exchange knee strikes to the midsection. Lawler starts attacking Cerrone with a plethora of kicks to the midsection, Cerrone eats a left as he nails Lawler with a straight right. Lawler then catches Cerrone with a right uppercut, Lawler continues attacking Cerrone with kicks to the midsection. Cerrone responds by attacking Lawler with ahigh kick, Cerrone and Lawler get into a striking exchange for a short time. Cerrone continues going back to the high kick against Lawler, Lawler blocks a takedown from Cerrone before attacking him with a punching combination. The fighters swing away at each other as the round ends.

Fightful scores the round 10-9 for Lawler (Final Score: 29-28 for Lawler)

Official Result: #3 Robbie Lawler def. #6 Donald Cerrone by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

After the fight, Lawler asked the fans to think of his hospitalized teammate in Matt Hughes.
