Rory MacDonald Says He Was Bored With Some UFC Standards

Rory MacDonald has never been accused of being the most emotional guy, but he was bored.

That's what the former UFC Welterweight title contender said at the Bellator 160 post-fight press conference Friday evening, when speaking about some of the standards set by UFC. MacDonald, like many others, cited the Reebok sponsorship deal as a reason he made the jump from UFC to Bellator.

"They do it bigger. They do it right here. It's a fight show. They want to promote a fighter, they want to build it. It's not generic where everyone is wearing the same thing. We get to be our own individual selves. Where I was before, everyone is wearing the same uniforms now, we're all walking out of the same, boring dressing room or the gate. It's boring. People are tired of that. It wasn't major, but it was a part of it. You walk into that cage like every single other person out there on the roster. You're basically like a robot walking into the cage with the same jersey on, there's no difference between this guy and that guy. It's boring, I find it," MacDonald said of Bellator.

The 27-year old Rory MacDonald pointed to his brutal war with Robbie Lawler at UFC 189 was something that caused him to open his mind about making as much money as possible while he was still young. Previously, he said he wasn't that concerned.

"I just wanted to get in and fight as much as possible, but times are changing. People are starting to realize you have to make money out of this, not just the promoters. That title fight against Robbie was an eye-opener. It was like, OK we got to the show where you wanted to go, it didn't work out, but now it's time to start making some money," MacDonald said.

MacDonald says he plans to fight the Bellator Welterweight Championship next year.
