Sarah Kaufman Signs With Invicta FC, Fighting This January

Former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion and UFC veteran Sarah Kaufman has signed a multi-fight deal with the Invicta Fighting Championships.

MMA Fighting was the first to announce the signing.

Kaufman competed once before in the promotion, defeating UFC fighter Leslie Smith by split decision at Invicta FC 5. The fighter would also compete four times under the UFC banner, with the lone win in the promotion coming over Leslie Smith in a rematch at the UFC Ultimate Fighter Nations Finale.

The former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion has been inactive in recent years, just competing once since the UFC opted not to re-sign her in late 2015. That fight was a decision victory over UFC fighter Jessica-Rose Clark at Battlefield: The Great Beginning in March of this year.

It was at Strikeforce Challengers 6 in February of 2010 where Kaufman won the women’s bantamweight title, defeating Takayo Hashi by decision. Kaufman would defend the gold once before losing it to via third round submission to Marloes Coenen at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons 2 in December of 2010.

Now that Kaufman is signed to a new deal with Invicta FC, the former champion is expected to headline Invicta FC 27 against an opponent to be announced this January.
