Stephen Thompson Making Adjustments For UFC 209

Stephen Thompson will again be challenging for the UFC Welterweight Title against champion Tyron Woodley in a rematch at UFC 209.

The karate specialist, who fought Woodley to a draw in their first meeting at UFC 205, believes the adjustments he makes the second time around will be crucial.

“Tyron’s an intelligent guy – you know he’s going to be making some adjustments,” Thompson said at a UFC 209 media conference call. “We’re both going to make adjustments to make this fight exciting and leave with that ‘W.’ I know he’s making adjustments, I’m making adjustments, which is going to make this fight even better.”

Thompson and Woodley were the first two fighters to compete to a draw in a title match since former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard did the same thing a few years earlier. The challenger feels that he cost himself in his first fight because he was a little too hesitant.

“That’s how I normally fight, and my last fight I was very hesitant,” Thompson said. “I just got to go out there and fight like I normally do and just let it all out and don’t hold anything back.”

UFC 209 takes place on Saturday, March 4 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson headlining.
