Tyron Woodley Wants GSP To Admit Why He’s Really Coming Back

UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley is coming off of a successful title defense against submission wizard Damien Maia at UFC 214.

Georges St. Pierre is a former UFC Welterweight Champion and makes his return to the Octagon when he fights UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bipsing in the main event of UFC 217.

The current welterweight kingpin would like to see the former title holder admit to the fans the real reason he is making a comeback.

“I knew what he was coming back for,” Woodley said on The Morning Wood Show. “I knew he wasn’t coming back to do another run and do what he has already done, he already has a name engraved on the record books. He’s coming back because he said, ‘Hey you know what ... Jon Jones, Conor, Ronda Rousey and all these fighters are making all this money, so I want to get in on some of this money.’”

GSP has yet to give any reason for a comeback other than he feels better competing inside the Octagon now that USADA drug testing is in place.

Woodley also knows that GSP isn’t really coming back to become a champion, but just to compete in super fights.

“What George St-Pierre needs to do is just to be honest. You’re not back in this sport to take on the welterweights, prove that you’re back and that the king is back, you’re not back for that, man. You’re here for super fights, you’re here to make a lot of money, because you helped build the business model for pay-per-view and there’s no shame in that, but just be real,” says Woodley.

UFC 214 takes place on Saturday, November 4 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Michael Bisping and Georges St. Pierre headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
