It did not take the UFC long to take care of business when it came to Mark Aragon, who is a staff member associated with Camp Jackson-Winklejohn.
Aragon was credentialed for and attended UFC 219, where Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino successfully defended the UFC Women’s Featherweight Title over former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm. Aragon would take to Instagram after the event, calling Cyborg a man on multiple occasions, which led to a furious Cyborg demanding and then receiving an apology from the staffer.
However, an apology was not enough to satisfy the UFC, because the promotion has announced that Aragon has been stripped of all credentials for future UFC events.
The UFC issued the following statement on the matter:
“UFC is aware and troubled with the recent statements made by a social media representative from the JacksonWink MMA Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico as it concerns women’s featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg. UFC does not condone or tolerate the remarks that were used. The organization has reached out to the JacksonWink team to inform them that the individual in question will not be granted access for future events.”
This is just another setback for what was once one of the best MMA gyms in the sport, which is now in the midst of an unprecedented losing streak in the UFC and dealing with a lot of well deserved criticisms at the moment.
