Former World Extreme Cagefighting Bantamweight Champion and UFC veteran Miguel Torres has announced his retirement from the sport, ending a seventeen year MMA career.
The fighter retires with a professional MMA record of 44-9-0, with his last fight being a win over Lloyd Carter by first round submission at United Combat League: Havoc In Hammond 3.
Torres announced his retirement with the following message on Facebook:
During his heyday in the WEC, the now retired Torres had incredible fights with Chase Beebe, Yoshihiro Maeda, Takeya Mizugaki and Joseph Benavidez. Torres didn’t fare to well in the UFC, winning two of four fights in the promotion, those wins came over Antonio Banuelos and Nick Pace.
It was in the World Series Of Fighting that Torres got his last shot on the big stage, but he would fall short in fights against Pablo Alfonso and Marlon Moraes. Torres’s last nationally televised fight was a 46 second thrashing from Desmond Green at Titan Fighting Championships 31 in October 2014.
Although Torres lost more than he won in the later years of his career, this fighter will go down as one of the pioneers of the lighter weight classes we see in MMA promotions today.
