Roman Reigns Admits Cody Rhodes Has Been Able To Carry The WWE Banner

At WrestleMania 40, Roman Reigns effectively passed the torch to Cody Rhodes, who ended Roman’s 1316 day reign as Undisputed WWE Champion.

Reigns took time off until SummerSlam, and Cody held the championship for a year before losing it to John Cena. Even in the year between WrestleMania 39 and 40, Rhodes was viewed as the top face in the company with Reigns working a limited schedule.

Speaking with Mark Elibert of Complex, Reigns explained that he’s looking for consistency, durability, ambition and work ethic in a top star, and admits Rhodes has been able to carry the banner.

“As it’s been shown with John (Cena) and then also with me, it takes a decade or so. Can you perform every single time and then deliver when you’re asked? Can you do it when you’re tired? Can you do it when you’re sick? Can you do it when you’re hungover after WrestleMania? Can you carry the banner for this company? This is a billion-dollar machine. It’s not easy. There’s only been one who’s been able to carry that banner, and that’s been Cody,” said Roman.

Reigns and Rhodes both star in the upcoming “Street Fighter” film.
