Sting: Wrestling Antonio Inoki Gives Me Serious Bragging Rights
Sting reflects on his time working in Japan.
Sting recently wrapped up a decades-long wrestling career in 2024 at AEW Revolution. While he’s most known for his time in WCW, AEW, and TNA, he also spent plenty of time in Japan. Recently, he was asked by Justin Dhillon of The Wrestling Classic if he had any fond memories of his time in Japan.
The Stinger specifically gives a shout-out to the Great Muta, saying he enjoyed any time they worked together. He also mentioned that getting the chance to wrestle Antonio Inoki is something that will always stand out in his career and provides him with a lot of bragging rights.
“I mean, probably every match that I had with Mut. One in particular that’s going to be special, no matter what, gives me serious bragging rights, is that I wrestled Antonio Inoki. Not many people can say that.”
Sting wrestled Antonio Inoki in 1995 at the January 4 Tokyo Dome event. He would lose to the founder of NJPW in the finals of the BVD Cup Martial Arts Tournament.
Sting not only wrestled opposite the Great Muta. They also frequently teamed against the likes of the Road Warriors. Sting was also recently a part of Muta’s retirement tour. Learn more about that here.
Elsewhere in the interview, Sting spoke about how important it was to have his kids by his side in his retirement match. Read more here.
