Back in the chaotic Attitude Era, one thing was almost a certainty: no vehicle was safe.
Vince Russo joined "The List & Ya Boy" to talk about the constant vehicular destruction during the Attitude Era. Russo said the ability to write anything into WWE programming and not having to worry about the script being changed gave Russo a lot of creative freedom to work with. That creative freedom gave Russo the chance to take down a lot of cars.
"When I was a writer for WWE, we could write anything. We could write anything into the show, whatever we envisioned in our minds and it would happen. We knew we had the production team, Kevin Dunn, the director, and it would happen. There were no boundaries. If we wanted Vince McMahon's sports car to be filled with cement, we wrote it down and knew it was going to happen. That has to do with money and the people that got the job done. That was the beauty of the WWE. Once I got to WCW and TNA, as I was writing these shows, I knew in the back of my mind I was editing myself because I know they won't be able to pull it off. They don't have the finances and they don't have the people in place that get what is required... In the WWE, you could write anything and it would happen," Russo said.
Russo said the vehicles would be rented out only to be demolished, possibly the most famous instance of vehicular destruction is the aforementioned McMahon car being filled with cement. Russo said he isn't even sure how many cars were totaled during that time, but said at least dozens of cars were destroyed.
"I can't tell you how many rental cars in my days in the WWE we went through. I would say, easily two dozen rental cars," Russo said.
