WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder Arrested

WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has been arrested for marijuana possession.

During a traffic stop on June 14, wilder was arrested and later charged with second-degree possession of marijuana, which is a misdemeanor. The traffic stop was due to a window tint violation. He would then later be released on $1,000 bond.

Attorney Paul Patterson said the small amount of marijuana didn’t belong to Wilder and that someone else had used his vehicle while he was out of town.

“Deontay has been out-of-state for several days,” Patterson said. “He returned home today from Georgia driving his Rolls Royce and selected his Cadillac Escalade from his fleet of vehicles to run errands. A small amount of marijuana was detected in the vehicle and Officer Roach arrested Mr. Wilder for misdemeanor possession.”

Wilder has not fought since beating Gerald Washington on a February PBC on Fox main event to retain his title. He retained the title with a fifth-round knockout to push his record to 38-0 with 37 KO.

Wilder’ does not currently have any fights scheduled, but he does have Bermane Stiverne waiting in the wings as Wilder’s mandatory challenger. The WBC has ordered the two of them to fight for the title. Wilder had been trying to pursue a unification bout with WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker.
