Wilson Reis Calling Out Flyweight Champion At UFC 208

Wilson Reis is a few days away from taking on the unranked Ulka Sasaki on the preliminary card of UFC 208. Reis, if he does get past Sasaki at UFC 208, intends on calling out UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson.

“After this win, I’m going to make a case again,” Reis told MMA Junkie. “I’m going to get on the mic and challenge Demetrious, because that’s a fight I deserve.”

Reis was originally set to face Johnson for the gold at UFC 201, but the champion pulled out of the fight due to an injury. Johnson would then defend the gold against Tim Elliott at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale. Reis, who was the first and only Elite XC Flyweight Champion, feels that he’s the top ranked fighter in the UFC Flyweight Division.

“I feel I’m No. 1 in line,” he said. “They could give (Johnson) a No. 1 contender like (Joseph) Benavidez, but I feel I deserve this fight because I did everything I was supposed to do, and we showed up on fight night, and he didn’t. We deserve this chance again.”

UFC 208 takes place on Saturday, February 8 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with Holly Holm and Germaine De Randamie headlining.
