American Flag From WWE Headquarters Caused Thousands Of Power Outages

On Saturday night, the American flag flew off WWE headquarters and hit a power line, setting fire to the flag.
According to Eversource, there were more than 4,000 outages in Greenwich and 2,700 in Stamford around 6 p.m. Sunday. By Monday morning, the outages had been resolved. About 5,000 customers in Stamford lost power immediately, but Eversource was able to restore power to about 3,000 of those customers within 20 minutes.

Stamford Deputy Fire Chief Matt Palmer confirmed the large flag was torn off the roof of the WWE headquarters at 8:44 p.m. on Saturday. He said it lodged itself on high-voltage wires adjacent to the Metro North train tracks near the intersection of Atlantic and Manhattan streets – right near the Stamford Train Station.
Palmer said there was little the fire department could do except monitor the situation and inform the power companies.
WWE opened its new headquarters on 707 Washington Blvd in 2023. The building is 13 stories and 400,000 square feet.
