Cinta De Oro (Sin Cara) Says Arn Anderson Went To Bat For Him In Mask vs. Mask WWE Creative Meetings
Cinta de Oro didn’t want to take off his mask in WWE.
On the October 16, 2011 episode of SmackDown, Sin Cara (Cinta de Oro) faced off with the other Sin Cara (Mistico) in a Mask vs. Mask match. The latter came away with the win, which led to Oro’s run as Hunico.
Speaking with TMZ Inside The Ring, Cinta de Oro said that it was really hard for him to take his mask off.
“Man, it was hard. It was a really hard decision but I understood that I was a soldier, that I had to do what they asked me to do.”
As it turns out, Arn Anderson went to bat for Oro in creative meetings.
“I remember Arn Anderson came up to me after the meeting and he went straight to me. The only thing he said was, ‘You know what, I’m sorry. I tried, but I’m sorry, I couldn’t.’ That’s all he told me. I couldn’t understand. Then, later on, people were telling me that the decision was already made for me to be without a mask. Arn Anderson was the one that [said], ‘No, let’s keep him with a mask and let’s get the other guy without the mask.’ But, I guess there was a lot of conflict in that sense during that time in that room. They wanted to make him a star because he was a big star in Mexico and I understood that, so the only thing I could do was make the best out of my opportunity.”
