Cody Rhodes recalls his 2022 Hell In A Cell match with Seth Rollins, noting that the bout ‘wasn’t supposed to be long’.

At the 2022 show, Cody would come into the match with Rollins with two wins to Seth’s 0 at the time of their singles rivalry. However, this match would have two different factors to their previous bouts as not only would it take place inside Hell In A Cell, but Cody would be coming into the bout with a torn pectoral muscle completely off the bone.

While speaking to ESPN in a recent interview, Cody Rhodes revealed that he and Seth were not supposed to go as long as they did in the match.

“This also, most people probably figured this out. This wasn’t supposed to be long. I think we went 20 something minutes, but this was supposed to be, you know, five, six minutes and a lot of threatening me, which is fair to say that they would stop it if it got too far. But I just wanted to do it different. Guys get hurt and they go get cut. They go get surgery or guys get hurt and they go out on their back, whatever it may be. I just wanted to do it differently. I just got started again and The fandom, particularly the young fans, were starting to really get behind what we were doing, and I didn’t want to let them down. Plus, Chicago, Assault State Arena, means a great deal to me. God, it looks bad.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Cody spoke about the origins of his Cross Rhodes finisher. You can read more about that here.
