Drake Wuertz Apologizes For Past Associations

Drake Wuertz (Drake Younger) made a surprise appearance at GCW Homecoming night one, helping Joseph Sawyer win the GCW Title in the main event against Atticus Cogar.

Wuertz has come under fire in recent years for his QAnon activities and publicly arguing against mandating mask-wearing.

At Homecoming night two, Wuertz faced Otis Cogar for the GCW Ultraviolent Champion. After the match, which he lost, he addressed the audience.

Wuertz said that he accepts and appreciates that people may not be thrilled about his presence in GCW. “You are incredibly valid for feeling that way.” He said that five or six years ago, Joey Janela and Brett Lauderdale contacted him because he had lost his way. “People like Joey and Brett were saying, ‘That’s not the guy I know.’ I brushed it off and didn’t listen. I had tunnel vision and was associating with topics and groups, loosely or directly that I had no business or interest affiliated with. Through that, I may have said some things, and I definitely some things that offended a large portion of our audience in independent wrestling. For that, genuinely, I’m sorry, and I hope you’ll forgive me.”

Wuertz said he hasn’t asked for any special treatment and isn’t there for a legends contract, he’s there because he’s one of the best.

He said that all he’s asking is for a chance to prove he’s not that guy. “All I’m asking is for an opportunity.”

Wuertz closed by thanking Lauderdale and Janela.
