Kevin Owens Vs. Sami Zayn WWE Title Match Finish Had To Be Changed

Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn on this week’s WWE SmackDown was supposed to end differently.
On the 9/18 WWE SmackDown, Kevin Owens faced Sami Zayn for the WWE Championship. The finish of this match was awkward, as CM Punk came out to hit Owens with the WWE Title. Zayn went for the cover, but Owens awkwardly kicked out. The bout ended in Sami’s favor as he went on to have his first successful title defense as the WWE Champion.
Fightful Select reports that the bout was supposed to end after the belt shot.
“In speaking to WWE sources about the Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn match, they claimed to @FightfulSelect that Owens was never supposed to kick out after the belt shot. The match was to end after that, but after the ref didn’t call for the bell, the finish had to be changed.”
