Monica Monroe Says AJ Styles Invited Her To WWE Tryout During SummerSlam Weekend

Monica Monroe was recruited by AJ Styles.

Monroe’s career changed in a big way at the beginning of October, as she was able to defeat Laynie Luck to win the WWE ID Women’s Championship. As a result of the title win, she also received a WWE ID contract.

Months before winning the belt, Monica Monroe attended a WWE tryout during SummerSlam weekend in Minnesota. As it turns out, she was invited to the tryout by AJ Styles.

“It wasn’t just a typical, you know, the WWE Recruit page reached out to me. It was actually AJ Styles that reached out to me. Yeah, so when I got the call, I freaked out, I wanted to cry obviously because he’s an incredible wrestler and just one of the greatest of all the time and just one of the best athletes out there. One the things he said that he noticed was that I was really athletic. Coming from him, I’m like, ‘Are you joking me? You’re telling me I’m athletic? That’s crazy.’ Yeah, that’s how I got the call was from AJ and he invited me to the tryout. Of course, it goes into Gabe’s hands — who runs the ID program. It was a combination of those two who got me in. I think, of course, five years of hard work was really what got me in, being at Reality Of Wrestling. But, it was finally like acknowledged and seen. So yeah, it was a really cool moment. I cried a little bit of happy tears and then of course I called all my friends about it.”
