Sami Zayn Says He Let Gunther Choke Out Cody Rhodes On WWE SmackDown To ‘Teach Him A Lesson’

Sami Zayn explains why he let Gunther choke Cody Rhodes last week.

During last week’s WWE SmackDown, Sami Zayn went one-on-one with Cody Rhodes. Zayn ended up losing this match, despite Gunther’s interference. After the bout, Gunther put the sleeper hold on the Undisputed WWE Champion, with Zayn standing there watching and not helping The American Nightmare.

On the 5/29 edition of WWE SmackDown, Rhodes was being interviewed by Cathy Kelley backstage, but Zayn interrupted them. Zayn asked Rhodes if he had anything to say to him, and the latter denied.

Both wrestlers talked about the Gunther incident from the previous week. Sami said that he didn’t help Rhodes because he wanted to teach him a lesson.

“I wanted to help, Cody. Every instinct in me was saying, ‘Help him, help him.’ I wanted to do that, because that’s how I’m wired cause I’m a good guy. I’m the last real good guy around here, apparently. It took everything in me not to help you right here. You wanna know why? Cause as I watched the life fade from your eyes, I realized the right thing to do in that moment was to leave you there so that you could learn a lesson.”

Rhodes said once he’s done with Gunther, he’ll hopefully teach Zayn a lesson, too.

Gunther and Cody Rhodes are currently scheduled to face each other at Clash in Italy for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
