Tavion Heights speaks on being a former Olympian and what that brings him when he is introduced as an Olympic wrestler.

Heights is a former amateur wrestler, and has competed at the highest level in Greco Roman wrestling, competing at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, before going on to sign with WWE, where he is currently a member of the WWE NXT roster.

While speaking to the Battleground podcast in a new interview, Tavion Heights spoke about how it feels to be introduced as an Olympic wrestler.

“That’s not something that me personally, I get tired of carrying. No, you know, it’s an honor. It’s also a burden. People look at you, you get to put the target on your back. It is what it is. It’s all those things and more, and I love it.”

When asked how he feels about being compared to other former Olympic wrestler’s Tavion noted that his Greco Roman background is different to other former amateur wrestlers’ styles in WWE.

“Look I respect Chad so much. I saw his run when I was an amateur wrestler, and I, of course, I respect Kurt. He’s a gold medalist, but, at the end of the day, you got to be your own person. I think Chad’s done a good job of being his own person as well. Kurt obviously was his own thing, but that’s exactly my goal. I think if you look at my style and you look at Chad Gable’s style or Kurt Angle’s style, there’s not that much similarity there. It’s my goal to stand out, to make a difference, to be my own man and stand on my own two feet, and that’s what I tend to do every day. Every time you see me in that ring, I’m going to show you why I’m different. Just for knowledge, I did Greco Roman wrestling, which is all upper body and throwing. So very different from the styles that’s been shown and done in WWE before, even in that regards.”

Heights is currently scheduled to challenge for the WWE NXT North American Championship at the Great American Bash. You can read more about that here.
