In the modern world of professional wrestling, kayfabe is not what it used to be, with shows such as WWE Unreal and AEW All Access providing behind the scenes looks at how operations in both companies happen, including the planning of matches and segments from a character perspective.
While speaking to the Wrestleholics podcast in a new interview, Ted Dibiase Sr would be asked about the current wrestling product, noting that kayfabe isn’t protected like it used to be.
“I grew up in the last era of wrestling that, you know, it’s kind of like, pro wrestling started at the carnivals and stuff, and that’s the way it went. It was always, you know, it was kayfabe. Kayfabe was protect the business, you know. Try as hard as you can not to let them know that we’re putting on a show, and, you know, I think I was part of the crowd that experienced the last of that. You know, and it just like Vince, you know, he said- I think in Vince’s mind, it was like almost like, look, you know, everybody already knows it’s not real. So let’s not hide it anymore.”
Elsewhere in another interview, Dibiase explained why he created his Million Dollar Dream finish. You can read more about that here.
