WrestleCon Owner Proposes Idea Of Tony Khan Doing AEW Forbidden Door Weekend While WWE WrestleMania 43 Is In Saudi Arabia

An idea for Forbidden Door weekend in April 2027.

As of this writing, WWE is scheduled to present WrestleMania 43 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It will be the first time the show has been held outside of North America.

Since that news became public, AEW President Tony Khan has been asked many times whether AEW will do something that weekend domestically.

WrestleCon/Highspots owner Michael Bochicchio discussed the subject during his Sign-it-Live session with Mick Foley. Bochicchio proposed the idea of Khan doing Forbidden Door weekend while WrestleMania is in Saudi.

Foley: “Just a heads-up, I’m gonna be cutting way back on outside appearances in 2027. I’m gonna make AEW my priority… It might be one convention, or two signings in a weekend but just one weekend a month I’m gonna do some outside stuff.”

Bochicchio: “Well, hopefully you’ll fit WrestleCon into that schedule.”

Foley: “Oh! Where is it gonna be this year?”

Bochicchio: “That’s the question. I need to get ahold of Tony (Khan). Here’s my idea. I’m gonna pitch it to you. He does this pay-per-view called Forbidden Door where he brings in other groups. I think we should make a global weekend out of that pay-per-view.”

Foley: “Whoa! Woah, and hold it where?”

Bochicchio: “Well, I mean, I’ll let Tony decide where he wants to hold it… I think the fans want something like that.”

Foley: “They do. I mean, it’s tradition that we have this week-long celebration of wrestling.”

Bochicchio: “We’re not gonna do it in Saudi.”

Foley: “No. I know the money might be good but, man, it’s just leaving a very wide space for someone to fill that void.”

AEW referee Bryce Remsburg said conversations are underway about what AEW might do while WWE is in Saudi Arabia in April.
