Adam Cole and Finn Balor will go to war over the NXT Championship on NXT Super Tuesday II, and Adam Cole wants to use this match to prove he is history's superior NXT Champion.
While Adam Cole did defend the NXT Championship against Finn Balor in December of 2019, both men enter the match on September 8th on equal footing. Neither man is champion and they both scored two falls and a 60-minute Iron Man Match the week before.
Speaking with GameSpot, Adam Cole recalled facing Finn Balor on his farewell tour of the independents and remarked that they had instant chemistry together. Six years have passed since that match, and Adam Cole says he needs to gain his second NXT Championship from Finn Balor to prove a point.
"When you're NXT champion, you're preparing at the highest level all the time, not only because you're the champion, but to keep the championship," Cole explained. "So Finn Balor--don't get me wrong--he's a high-level performer, he has been for years. But again, he'll tell you as a former NXT champion, you're at your peak physically and mentally when you're firing on all cylinders as an NXT champion."
He continued, "I've been ready to go with Finn Balor for a long time, because there's been this constant comparison between Adam Cole and Finn Balor. There's always this discussion of who was the actual greatest NXT champion of all time," Cole said. "All the respect in the world for Finn, but I want people to remember me as the greatest NXT champion of all time--not him."
Fightful will have live coverage of NXT beginning tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern.
