A new NXT Champion will be crowned at TakeOver: New York.
On tonight's episode of NXT, Triple H opened the show and announced that due to Tommaso Ciampa's neck injury, he had no choice but to vacate the NXT Title. Ciampa was scheduled to face Johnny Gargano at TakeOver: New York, but neck surgery has left Ciampa unable to compete at the event. Triple H stated that Gargano will still compete for the title at TakeOver in a two out of three falls match.
But first, he needed an opponent. A fatal five-way was booked between Ricochet, Aleister Black, Matt Riddle, Velveteen Dream and Adam Cole with the winner to challenge Gargano for the vacant NXT Title. After an action-packed contest, the Undisputed ERA leader punched his ticket to the TakeOver main event.
