AEW Abandons Attempt To Trademark ‘AEW Shockwave’

Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics recently reported AEW and NWA were in a legal dispute over the name “Shockwave,” which was a trademark filed by AEW in September 2024. NWA filed an opposition, claiming they had been using the “Shockwave” name for years.

In the latest update, Thurston reports that AEW filed for abandonment on November 13.

The board entered a judgment on November 17 “with prejudice,” which means AEW can’t pursue the trademark again in the future.

On November 18, AEW President Tony Khan said he had a nice chat with NWA President Billy Corgan, and that he was unlikely to use the Shockwave name.

“It’s an idea. I file lots of different names and ideas of shows. That was a name that I didn’t know anybody else had used. I’m probably not going to do it. I had a really nice talk with Billy Corgan, who owns the NWA. When I talked to him, ‘If that’s a show you might do again, you did it first, you can do that.’ He said, ‘That’s great. I appreciate that,’” said Tony.

That settles that.
