AEW Dynamite (5/17/23) Preview: Roderick Strong vs. Chris Jericho, Don Callis Addresses His Actions

It's Wednesday, May 17, 2023, and you know what that means!

It's time to break down the May 17 episode of AEW Dynamite on TBS.

Valentina Feroz Released By WWE

With a lot of focus on the Warner Bros. Discovery upfronts and the immediate future of AEW programming, AEW presents another episode of Dynamite on the road to AEW Double or Nothing 2023 on May 28.

This episode will feature Don Callis speaking to the audience, Chris Jericho clashing with Roderick Strong in a Falls Count Anywhere match, two of the Four Pillars in action, and much more.

Here's everything you need to know before the latest AEW Dynamite on TBS.

Don Callis Addresses His Actions

Seven days after he betrayed Kenny Omega inside a steel cage, Don Callis will appear on AEW Dynamite, presumably to address his actions. Dawn sprinted from the arena shortly after his dirty deeds were completed proving that he is just as much of a jackal as ever.

The spotlight will be on the Invisible Hand. Hopefully, he explains himself after the unthinkable betrayal but as he prefers, Don Callis is in complete control.

RUSH vs. Jungle Boy

As "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry prepares for his first significant opportunity at the AEW World Championship at AEW Double or Nothing 2023, he will take on RUSH on May 17. RUSH is a former World Champion in his own right and no slouch when it comes to softening stars up for MJF, but Jack Perry looks to prove that he is a force to be reckoned with and the top threat to Maxwell Jacob Friedman at Double or Nothing.

Sammy Guevara In Action

Sammy Guevara will also be warming up for the main event of Double or Nothing on May 17. Guevara's opponent has not been named, but he's never one not to give 110%. No stranger to the main event of Double or Nothing, Guevara is determined to win his first World Championship in 11 nights.

Jay White vs. Ricky Starks

Bullet Club Gold looks to continue its ascension in AEW as Jay White takes on Ricky Starks. A unique encounter that stems from the back of a very personal issue. Neither man can genuinely afford a loss. Ricky Starks is looking for his first genuine singles championship in AEW, while "Switchblade" is looking to repeat his dominance in Japan stateside for AEW.

One of these men will continue their climb up the rankings, leaving the other to lick their wounds.

The War In The Women's Division Continues

Another week, another clash between The Outcasts and AEW homegrowns. This time, Britt Baker tags with Jamie Hayter and Hikaru Shida to take on all three of The Outcasts, Toni Storm, Saraya, and Ruby Soho. The tension between these two factions continues to be as palpable as ever. Baker and company are looking to shut the door on The Outcasts as Raya's crew looks to continue kicking the door down.

Falls Count Anywhere

Roderick Strong battles Chris Jericho for the first time ever on a major stage. Even though both men are known for their wrestling expertise, this match will be a Falls Count Anywhere with Adam Cole and the entire Chris Jericho Appreciation Society barred from ringside. While it is not known how or if the false Count Anywhere stipulation will play into these provisions being worked around, Strong and Jericho look to put aside their finesse to beat the holy hell out of one another, each with something to prove.

Chris Jericho is looking to remain atop AEW, and Roddy is looking to prove that he's just as good as ever and break Chris Jericho's back along the way.

That's everything announced for tonight's show. Last week saw the return of Miro and Thunder Rosa's return and Tony Khan's promise that more content is on the way. AEW's summer is just getting started.
