Live Coverage
– AEW Dynamite starts with an announcement from Excalibur: a Tag Team Title Eliminator Tournament begins tonight, leading to the finals at Forbidden Door in London on August 24. The first match, FTR vs. JetSpeed, takes place this evening.
– Renee Paquette caught Hangman before he went out for his match with Wheeler Yuta. MJF interrupted to say he’s going to beat him for his championship without using his contract, but Hangman said he won’t get a shot unless he earns it or uses his contract, and he won’t beat him because he’s a coward.
* Hangman Page def. Wheeler Yuta
– Hangman quickly defeated Yuta with the Buckshot, then attacked him with the chain and opened him up afterward. Hangman went to hang Yuta over the ropes, but paused and told Yuta that no one is coming to save him, and the Death Riders don’t care about Yuta.
* AEW World Tag Team Title Eliminator Round 1: FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) def. JetSpeed (Speedball Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight)
– After the match, Stokely Hathaway is cutting a pro hathaway is cutting a promo on behalf of the winners when Adam Copeland comes out to confront them. Hathaway says he can’t get in with a certain distance of FTR, and Adam reveals that he’s hired Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin to do that for him tonight. They brawl. Copeland goes to attack Stokely.
– Nick Wayne cut a promo after that. He says the former patriarchy is now uncaged and will begin to assert its dominance on AEW Saturday Collision.
– Jon Moxley, in a vignette, said there’s no reason for him to be a bitch about what happened to him in Texas. He says he’s celebrating the fact that Hangman Page dug deep inside of him and found the next level. However, by the end of the night, they would find out what kind of man Hangman is now.
– Will Ospreay comes out and says he’s got herniated discs in his neck. However, he’s going to try to rehab with physical therapy. He vowed to get vengeance on Death Riders.
– A vignette covers the alliance between Thekla, Skye Blue, and Julia Hart.
– Renee Paquette interviews Willow Nightingale. She is targeting Thekla.
– Backstage, Renee Paquette asks MVP about their decision to help Adam Copeland. MJF storms in and says they need to focus on helping him win the AEW World Championship. In a bit of a shocking twist, MVP gives Lashley a chance to grab MJF by the throat and announce that he no longer wants him in the group. Everyone else walks away from Max after looking at him disapprovingly.
* “Timeless” Toni Storm def. Billie Starkz
– Starkz attacked Toni after the match. Athena ran down and attempted to cash in her contract for a championship opportunity. Alex Windsor ran in to save the day.
* Swerve Strickland def. Hechicero
– Strickland gets attacked by Kazuchika Okada after the match. Okada used a chair, but Strickland was able to turn the tables. Strickland tried to Pillmanize Okada’s neck, but he got away.
– Ricochet promo backstage. The Gates of Agony are now referred to as GOA.
– MJF comes out and says he doesn’t need Bobby Lashley to win the world championship. He says he will win it straight up. Mark Briscoe comes out to interrupt. MJF makes more references to Jay Briscoe. Mark wants to fight him next week. He declines.
* Mark Briscoe def. Claudio Castagnoli
– Jon Moxley comes out as the Death Riders attack Briscoe. He calls out Hangman, who happily obliges. Hangman says they will wrestle for the championship next week, but everybody is banned from the ringside area.
