AJ Lee says signing her new WWE contract felt like a ‘boss-ass moment’ due to being on CM Punk’s level of pay, which she had fought for.

Lee is someone who was always one to try to bring women’s wrestling forward prior to her retirement in 2014, and in 2025, she would return to WWE for the first time in years with the change she wanted to see being ever present in fans minds.

While speaking on the first episode of WWE Unreal’s second season, AJ Lee spoke about the moment where she would sign her new contract, noting that it was a ‘boss-ass moment’ following her fighting for women to be on equal footing to men in WWE.

“One of the things I fought for back in the day wasn’t just for equal footing. It was let’s get paid the way the men get paid. To know I’m signing this contract where I am getting paid the way my husband’s getting paid, where I’m being treated like an equal, it was a boss-ass moment, I’m not gonna lie. (laughs)”
