AJ Styles Says John Cena Called The Entirety Of Their Last Match In The Ring

AJ Styles reveals a fun fact about his final match with John Cena.

Styles and Cena clashed for the final time in October 2025 when they battled at the Crown Jewel premium live event. The bout was widely considered to be one of the best matches of the year.

On the latest episode of the Phenomenally Retro podcast, AJ Styles said that the entire match was called in the ring by Cena.

“Our last match, we didn’t have anything called in the beginning. Nothing was called. He just said, ‘I’ll call it.’ I go, ‘Okay’ and I trusted him so much that I wasn’t worried about it. Let’s just go out there and call it, bro, I’m listening to you. That was it. There was a couple of matches that were very like that. He would take control of it and he would call the match. He’s different, man.”

Cena retired from the ring in December 2025. Styles followed that up by retiring in January of this year.

Speaking of John Cena, a new trailer for his movie with Eric Andre was just released. Check it out by clicking here.
