AJ Styles On Retiring At Royal Rumble Instead Of WrestleMania: WrestleMania Has Lost Its Luster A Little Bit
AJ Styles wrapped up his career at WWE Royal Rumble, losing to Gunther in a match where his career was on the line.
The end of his career came a decade after he made his debut at Royal Rumble 2016.
Speaking on Raw Recap, Styles was asked why he decided to retire at Rumble instead of waiting until WrestleMania.
“It was coming back from an injury to WrestleMania to a match that, to me, didn’t have much build. WrestleMania, I’m sorry to say, used to be the most prestigious PLE, but to me, it’s kind of lost its luster a little bit. As far as the Royal Rumble, that’s special to me because that’s where I made my debut. To be able to end where I started is poetic,” he said.
WWE paid tribute to AJ Styles on Monday’s Raw. The night ended with The Undertaker announcing that Styles will be inducted into the 2026 WWE Hall of Fame.
