AJ Styles Praises His Son Son Avery And His Opponent Ashton Martin In Avery’s Debut Match

Avery Styles, the son of AJ Styles, made his in-ring debut on June 26 for Squared Circle Action in Georgia. Avery faced Ashton Martin in the bout.
While the full match is not online, and it is unknown if it will eventually be released in full, clips have circulated on social media. Avery notably pulled off the slide under the guard rail spot followed by a springboard forearm.
On his Phenomenally Retro podcast, AJ commented on his son’s debut bout.
“Avery, my second oldest, had his debut match. It got to be so big that it went from being the second-to-last match to the main event. I don’t think it disappointed anyone. Ashton Martin, Avery Styles, it was the main event.
“I’ve never been so impressed with two young guys. They’re young. I think Ashton is a year, year-and-a-half in, and of course, this was Avery’s debut match. There are a lot of things we do with that young energy; we use it the wrong way. They used it really well. They didn’t rush through anything; they took their time on things they should’ve. It’s not going to be perfect, but this is a debut match for Avery, and Ashton hasn’t had many matches. To see them do so well in a main event, I was blown away. If you have seen my first match, terrible. These guys did really well, and I’m so impressed with everything they’ve done. To see them put together that match and execute it so well, blown away.
“It was a simple story, told the way it should have, without so much involved that you couldn’t follow it. A lot of times, you put too much crap in one bag and try to fit it all, and you can’t. As fans, we can’t digest everything going on because there is so much going on. It was just enough of what they needed to see. As far as his debut, for him to pull off the springboard off the guardrail, little things like that, the timing, beautiful.”
AJ retired after losing to Gunther at the Royal Rumble. He’s been working with WWE in a training and scouting capacity.
