AJ Styles Sees Smackdown As An Underdog

AJ Styles thinks the blue brand has been the “little brother” to Raw. But with SmackDown Live, that role could change.

The Phenomenal One talked to The CW 33 in advance of last week’s SmackDown Live in Dallas. He talked to the station about the weekly, now live, two hour Tuesday night show.

“I see Smackdown as the underdog because Raw has been live for so long. Monday Night Raw, everybody knows exactly what it is and Smackdown being the little brother! Well, now Smackdown is live. Now we have the opportunity to show what we got and showcase our talent,” Styles said.

With SmackDown Live no longer being taped, Styles thinks the brand now has a better chance to compete with WWE’s flagship program, Monday Night Raw. With SmackDown live Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan, the show is in good hands. Not to mention the stellar roster, including WWE Champion Dean Ambrose, Jonn Cena, Intercontinental Champion The Miz, Randy Orton, and others.

“It’s Smackdown Live! We’ve got the best roster in WWE and like I said, it's live, therefore anything can happen,” Styles said.

Of course, Styles himself is one of the brand’s top Superstars. Styles, real name Allen Jones, has worked in TNA, ROH, New Japan, PWG, and has held titles in all of those promotions. He was named the number 1 best singles wrestlers by Pro Wrestling Illustrated in their PWI 500 in 2010. He was also named 2015 wrestler of the year, and most outstanding wrestler in 2014 and 2015  by Wrestling Observer.

“I got one gear, you either get all or nothing from me and you`re not sure what kind of incredible match you`re going to see!” Styles said.
