AJ Styles Speaks Further On Arik Cannon-Avery Styles Chair Situation

Last weekend, Arik Cannon, the promoter of F1RST Wrestling, claimed that Avery Styles, the son of AJ Styles, didn’t help set up chairs at the GCW event in Minnesota.
In response to Nattie saying in an interview that Avery wanted to pay his dues, Cannon wrote, “As someone who watched this kid skirt away from helping with a single thing at this very show…I’d just like to say: L O F’ING L !”
AJ responded, saying Avery was brought in to wrestle, not help with the ring. The two went back and forth a bit and other wrestlers jumped in with their thoughts and comments.
On the AJ Styles Show, AJ gave further comments on the situation.
“The promoter that was talking, at least he thought he was a promoter, was not the promoter of the show that my son was at. He was there to set up the ring. He got paid to do this with his crew. I’ve never heard anything about this. The guy (Avery) was working, Marcus Mathers, was like, ‘We’ve never heard anything. All we did was work the match.’ They drove from Missouri to Minnesota, slept in the car. They made the show. Never heard anything. Both of them tell me the same story. I’ve never helped anybody, they’ve never asked me, when I was paid to do a show for them to help them set up. Definitely a ring crew guy hasn’t said anything to me. If you are on the fence on whether you like Avery and you see him at a show, come up and talk to him. Decide for yourself. I’ve raised my kids to be polite, thankful, and appreciative. I can promise you this: nobody has been harder on my kids than me. I don’t play around or have sympathy for them, especially when it comes to wrestling, but I will protect their integrity. I think he’s a pretty good kid; at least that’s what I hear from everybody who meets him and talks to him face-to-face. I’m not gonna say they haven’t been turds to me or their mother, but that’s only for a short period of time because I set them straight real quick,” said AJ.
When AJ’s co-host mentioned that Avery just wants to focus on his wrestling career, AJ said, “For sure. He’s just like, ‘I just want to wrestle and do these things.’ There is no more time to give this. It shouldn’t have blown up to what it is. It should’ve been two guys talking to each other like adults. After time online, I thought, ‘This guy is trying to make this kid look bad. Let me say something.’ Maybe it wasn’t the best thing. Maybe I should’ve shut up. Probably should’ve, but I couldn’t help it. I’m a dad and going to defend my son when somebody else is wrong. Believe me, I checked on this before I said anything.”
Avery has not commented on the situation.
