The tournament to crown an Interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion has begun.
In the first match of the tournament, former champion Akira Tozawa took on Isaiah “Swerve” Scott in a group B matchup. After a back-and-forth contest, it was Tozawa who picked up the victory.

Despite the loss, Scott is still not out of the running just yet. The first round of the tournament consists of two four-man groups where all four wrestlers in the two groups must face each other and the winners of each group will face each other in the tournament final.
Group B also has El Hijo del Fantasma and Gentleman Jack Gallagher. Tozawa can outright advance to the tournament finals with a win over Fantasma and Gallagher. Group A consists of Kushida, Tony Nese, Drake Maverick and Jake Atlas.
